Elections
The CNC is made up of twenty-three (23) representatives of which eight (8) are precinct representatives, one for each of the Ward 2 - Charlestown voting precincts; eight (8) are at-large representatives, elected by the all the residents of Charlestown; and seven (7) are non-profit representatives. All neighborhood council representatives are elected to 3 year terms.

In early 2024, the council will be seeking applications from Charlestown non-profits to fill one open non-profit seat. Details will be available in early 2024. Watch this space for updates!
PRECINCT ELECTION
Fall 2024
The Charlestown Neighborhood Council will hold an election for all eight (8) of the precinct representative seats in the fall of 2024. Each voting precinct in Ward 2 -Charlestown has a seat on the council.
The election will most likely be scheduled in November. The nominations forms and the election schedule will be available well in advance. In the meantime, check whether you meet the candidate requirements to run for a seat in your precinct.

AT-LARGE ELECTION
December 2023
2023 At-large Election Update:
As of the submission deadline, seven (7) candidates had submitted their Nominations Forms for the eight (8) open CNC At-Large. No election was held.
On November 9, 2023, the council voted unanimously to seat all seven (7) candidates at the December 2023 meeting. After seating the new and continuing at-large members for their new term, the newly constituted council considered two candidates for the eighth at-large seat. Erin Woods was elected and seated by the council at the meeting.

Thomas Cunha, Elaine Donovan, Crystal Galvin, JD Mangrum, and Kelly Tucker ran for re-election and they were appointed to a new three year term ending in December 2026. Philip X Carr III, Johanna Hynes, and Erin Woods filled the three (3) seats left open by members who chose not to run for re-election.

Thank-you departing members!
Three (3) at-large council members - Barbara Babin, Ed Grace, and John Caldwell - chose not to run for re-election and their terms ended at the December CNC meeting. Barbara Babin and Ed Grace retired from the council after 25 and 32 years, respectively. We are grateful for their lengthy service and unwavering dedication to Charlestown. Nancy Johnsen, the 02129 Neighbor Alliance representative, will end her term on December 31, 2023. These four (4) departing council members have contributed to the community in innumerable ways during their terms. We will miss them all!

Special Election
February 4, 2023
This special election was called to fill these seven (7) seats:​
Precinct
5 Precinct seats (precincts 3,4,6,7, and 8) that are one year into a three-year term which will end December 31, 2024.​
Only precinct residents are eligible to cast a vote in their respective precinct election.
At-Large
2 At-Large Seats that are two years into a three-year term which will end
December 31, 2023. All residents of Charlestown are eligible to cast a vote in at-large elections.
The Precinct 7 seat remains open after the Special Election.

Thank you, Charlestown for a strong showing at the Special Election on Saturday, February 4th! Approximately 338 residents showed up to vote for their candidates. We would also like to extend a special thank you to all the volunteers who helped staff the polls and all the candidates who stepped forward to ask all of you for a chance to work on behalf of our neighborhood.

With so many excellent candidates, Charlestown was going to be the big winner in this election - no matter the outcome! Please join us in welcoming our new neighborhood council members:

New council members will be seated Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the CNC meeting which will take place from 7-9 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 545 Medford St., Charlestown, MA 02129.
Please join us at our council meetings this year! Meetings are generally the first Tuesday of the month, from 7-9 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Charlestown. The council is on hiatus in July & August.

Candidates
For all residents who wish to run for the Charlestown Neighborhood Council, please read the below qualifications, and then navigate to and follow the steps in the respective Nomination Form and Instructions
Precinct
A candidate for precinct representative must:

be a Charlestown resident over the age of 18 years old;
-
reside in the precinct that they are seeking to represent;
-
complete the information requested on the candidate certification form, including certifying that the candidate has never had a felony conviction or guilty plea;
-
gather at least 25 valid signatures from people who are 18 or older as of the date they sign the nomination papers and who have a valid residential address in the precinct that the candidate is seeking to represent; and
-
return the nomination papers by the deadline.
